At Mercure Canberra Belconnen, we are committed to reducing our environmental footprint, supporting local communities, and protecting the natural and cultural heritage of the region. We are proud to be certified under the Ecotourism Australia Sustainable Tourism Certification program, reflecting our ongoing commitment to responsible, sustainable tourism.

How You Can Help During Your Stay

  • Take your room key with you and switch off lights, TV, and air-conditioning when you leave for the day
  • Our air-conditioning is set for optimal efficiency at 22°C, in lake facing rooms we suggest to keep your curtains closed while you are out
  • Hang your towels to reuse them, or leave them on the floor if you’d like fresh ones
  • Hang the Skip the Clean door hanger outside your door to opt out of daily housekeeping and earn 100 Accor Live Limitless reward points, while helping us save water and energy

Recycling & Waste

All rooms are fitted with a dual-compartment bin for general waste and co-mingled recycling. Please help us reduce landfill by separating your waste:

  • Recycling: office paper, clean cardboard, glass bottles, aluminium cans, milk and juice cartons, rigid or hard household plastic bottles
  • General waste: takeaway coffee cups, waxed paper, tissues, paper hand towels, food, soiled packaging, soft plastics including plastic bags, biscuit and chip packets

Bottles and cans collected in the hotel are recycled with ReCollect, with proceeds directed to the National Zoo & Aquarium Conservation Team.

Local Wildlife

Canberra is known as the “Bush Capital” for good reason. Native wildlife — including kangaroos, cockatoos and snakes — can often be seen around Lake Ginninderra. Please don’t feed or approach wild animals and keep a safe distance at all times.

If you find sick, injured, or orphaned native wildlife, please contact ACT Wildlife on 0432 300 033, or Access Canberra on 13 22 81 for larger animals such as kangaroos.
